Here are our top 3 tips for companies looking to hire temporary workers:

Be realistic - don't ask for a "unicorn"

We won't hide the fact that we get requests that are very, very difficult to solve!

Sometimes we're asked to find a temporary worker with a unique combination of skills and experience, who can start tomorrow and who doesn't require any special remuneration for their efforts. It can seem as difficult to solve as catching a unicorn!

Let's make it clear that we will always do our best. Both for our customers, our temps and our long-term collaboration, but we can't deliver the impossible and in those situations we have to tell our customer;

  • That temps with skills that are in short supply take some time to find.
  • That temps who will go for a low hourly rate are probably not the best for the job.
  • That the temps who can start tomorrow may be available "now" because they're not the best qualified.

Of course, it's easier for us to deliver qualified temporary workers when you need them if you're realistic about availability, salary and skills, and arrive on time. Then the hard part might just be possible after all.

Be prepared to pay (a little) more to get the right temp NOW!

You should know that temp agencies in Denmark are in competition with many temp agencies, not just in Denmark, but also around Europe. 

Temporary workers want to be paid the best for their time and effort, so of course they travel where they get the best value for their work. It doesn't matter to them if they have to go to Billund, Bergen or Bordeaux to work. 

That's why you may need to be prepared to pay a little extra to get the right person for the right job - at the right time. Often, an extra five or ten dollars an hour can make the difference between getting the job done and getting it done right. And the few dollars it costs per week can be money well spent.

Consider:

  • How much does it cost to turn down an order due to staff shortages? 
  • How much does it cost in overtime because you lack skilled labor?
  • What happens if you deliver late? - Maybe day fines? 
  • Or worst case scenario - what it means if you lose your customer?

When set up like this, you'll probably recognize that there can be a lot of money to be made - or saved - by hiring the right temp at the right time.

Remember, you can always dismiss the temp if they don't live up to the professional requirements we agreed upon before the start. It's better to get the temp on a job where he can prove himself than to be too reluctant and have no one accept the job.
